In May 1964 a group of singers, under the direction of Mr. Max Morris, presented "Trial by Jury" in the former Congregational Church to aid Maitland Repertory Society who were negotiating to
purchase the old church for a theatre. The three packed houses were an indication that Maitland audiences enjoyed and appreciated the works of Gilbert & Sullivan. In August 1964, a public meeting was
called by His Worship the Mayor, Alderman H. T. Skilton, and Maitland Gilbert & Sullivan & Musical Society was formed.
Since then over 1400 people have been involved with the Society to help produce many productions and concerts. These productions are outlined below...
